At the PLA Conference in Denver this month, I was blessed to hear and see Anderson Cooper talk about his book with his mother, The Rainbow Comes and Goes at the opening session. I have always loved Anderson Cooper. I listened to him read his Dispatches from the Edge on the way to another library conference in Atlantic City many years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. I recommend it all the time.
I downloaded Rainbow right then and listened to it right away and it was just great. Not just because Gloria Vanderbilt and Anderson Cooper are truly interesting people, with fascinating and famous lives, but also because as a mother and son, they demonstrate a very dear relationship here in this book, a collection of emails sent back and forth during Vanderbilt's 91st year.
I was a teen when her jeans were all the rage and so while I always knew the Vanderbilt name and knew that Cornelius Vanderbilt was considered what I have always thought of as a robber baron, but the better or more polite term is captain of industry, I guess. I never could have fit into them, but I remember wishing I could!
I recommend listening to the audio, as I do with most books, but especially because they both have excellent audio book voices!
