What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

St. Joseph's Day

I know I have written this before...my buddy and former roomie, Nancy Lou was Nancy Joseph before she married Dick Jenkins.  A big day for her was St. Joseph's Day.  That is March 19.  And March 19 is also the day when the swallows return to Mission San Juan Capistrano.   It was on March 19 of this year that I saw the book The Year the Swallows Came Early and decided to give it a listen. I didn't know if it had anything to do with swallows returning to Capistrano, but it turns out, it did.
This was a good book, man.  It really shows you that dualistic thinking doesn't work in the world.
The book begins with Groovy walking her dad to work and her dad getting arrested.
This isn't an action book, it is a thoughtful and thought-provoking one.  And it has a lovely, very subtle, totally non-preachy, pro-church and faith message.  I really liked it.  I just wish maybe it had a wee bit more action, but really, it was a very, very good book.
