to be reading Give Me Some Truth on the Fourth of July. As you know, I do spend most of my life under a rock and so Eric Gansworth is a new author for me. After having read this, I immediately purchased If I Ever Get Out of Here and that will be my next book after the one I am listening to currently. GMST was excellent. Ganswoth is a man of many talents and he has written a must-read. He is a citizen of the Onondaga Nation and grew up in the Turscarora Nation, as he is the descendant of two Onondaga woman who were there when the Onondaga Nation was founded.
This book is an eye-opener for people who don't understand what the colonists did to the Native Peoples. And what they continue to do. For me, it wasn't as powerful as The Absolutely True Diary, because that was the first book to really open my eyes. I suggest reading them both. For sure. Required reading for everyone.
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
