It was good luck that I read Summer of the Gypsy Moths. After reading Pax and not liking it very much, I didn't know about taking another chance on Sara Pennypacker, but man, I am so glad I did and I hope to read more from her soon.
This was SUCH a different book. So good.
It is kinda like the movie, Weekend at Bernie's, which I have not seen, but everyone knows the premise, right?
It is also the story of families, all kinds of families and finding a place to belong and forgiveness and acceptance. Just a beautiful book. Quirky, for sure! I mean, if it is like WAB, it has to be, right? But just a great, great book.
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
