I wanted to read Belles for so long and just couldn't get into it, but then I started listening to it and couldn't stop. I know other reviewers have criticisms of it, but then I don't care. I just really enjoyed it all the way through. I am going to read Winter White, too.
It is the story of Izzy, a 15-year-old girl who takes care of her grandma and lives on the "harder side of town." She never knew her dad and her mom passed away when she was ten. A social worker decides that she can't live with her grandma anymore, and that there is a long-long uncle, a state senator, who will take her in. Now she is movin' on up. Every book review says it is a Cinderella story, but I guess I don't know the real story of Cinderella but anyway...she now goes to a very exclusive prep school and lives the high life, but the girls are super nasty even as they smile in her face, they stab her in the back because of where she came from. There is romance and gossip and all the rest. Great book, a lot of fun! Also set in North Carolina!
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
