that I would find a "dud" in Jewell Parker Rhodes books that I quickly bought on audible and blew through, I need not have done so!
But I didn't! So that is good!
And there was no need to worry because they were all fantastic!
Sugar was wonderful!
The only bad part is that I think I have read all of the children's/tween books that she has written so far!
So I look forward to her next!
Another thing to totally love about JPR's books is that now I have some fantastic and different historical fiction to recommend to kids and tweens!
I also love the setting of this one and Bayou Magic and Ninth Ward as I am totally mesmerized by New Orleans and the LA bayous. It was so interesting to me that Sugar's River Road Home was inspired by the Laura plantation, where my mom and I visited.
I also learned about society before the Chinese Exclusion Act and what led to this and want to know more about this time in history. Man, again, an excellent, really compelling historical fiction read!
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
