What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Sod Houses
No one lives in a sod house in Midnight at the Electric. But the thing is, this just seemed really done before, even though I know it wasn't done before, because it was unusual. And I think if it were written for younger kids it would win the Newbery because part of it takes place during the Dust Bowl and it seems like books that take place during the Dust Bowl and feature white girls ALWAYS got Newbery recognition, until as recently when the Newbery really has been going to deserving books like The Crossover and Dead End in Norvelt. Of course, there was Moon Over Manifest. Shudder. But the Printz always seems to be a better choice than the Newbery and so I don't think this will win. At least it didn't do it for me, not at all. I just didn't really love or like many, or any of the characters. But not to say it wouldn't be great for someone else. I just really didn't like this one at all and found it hard to finish.
