What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Dekker

I think I have found another go-to author!  Ted Dekker's Thr3e was excellent. Okay, there was a little romance, but since I have fallen in love myself I think that I see romance a little differently now!  This poses some really good questions about the nature of good and evil, in a theological context, as the main character is in seminary.  I enjoyed the book a lot and it kept me guessing until the end.  I saw on goodreads that someone had characterized his books as "Christian Fiction."  I have to say, that although I am most certainly a Christian, when I saw this, I thought, "Oh.," and I was disappointed because I don't have a high opinion of what I have seen marketed as "Christian Fiction."  Indeed, what I have seen of has been rather dull and rather on the conservative side, rather...what do I want to say-- yes, not very like Jesus the Christ at all!  But I am going to reserve judgement on Dekker and read another, because I did love this book and it did seem very Christ-like to me, especially the ending.  Very full of grace.  So maybe this is the kind of Christian Fiction that will redefine the way I see Christian Fiction!  In any case, a very disturbing, excellent, thought-provoking thriller.
