What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Had to Read It and Really Loved It

In a book group now!  Well, I don't know if it will be a forever book group, but I hope so!  It's with ladies from work and we are trying it!  This was the book chosen for the first month, The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry.  Let me tell you, if you HATE books that sound like this, "I am 30 and single and I can't find a nice guy and I am going to be all alone and all of my friends are getting married and I just have my cats and I am battling my weight because David Levithan will hate me." you MIGHT have the same experience that I did and want to end this book after the first scene but DON'T.  It is not like that at all.  This is a really beautiful story.

  1. I was pretty caught up in the story and the love affair with books and the written word. Unfortunately, the story faded rather quickly in my mind after I finished reading it. It was almost as if I liked the book so much that I didn't have to struggle at all to read it and that lack of struggle meant I wasn't laying down any lasting memories. Ha!
