What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

When the Saints Go Marching In
I've never been to New Orleans but I've always wanted to go. Something about the voodoo and the coffins being above ground and the 'ghostly' atmosphere- with all those vines and bayous attracts me. Also being that Eve's Bayou is one of my most favorite movies and I LOVED Skeleton Key, I want to go there even more. Hurricane Katrina was an indescribable horror. A terrible tragedy tragedy that changed New Orleans forever, I am sure. I remember when Mom and I drove to Atlantic City for a conference we listened to the Anderson Cooper memoir and the talked about the hurricane. And it was like learning about it from someone who was there. His book is awesome to listen to by the way. He reads it himself. So when I saw Hurricane Song on the self at the library I was like Hooray! and I read it in a couple hours. I don't think i've ever done that before! It is an incredibley interesting story of Miles, a high school sophomore and his jazz musician dad and uncle, trapped in the Superdome during the hell that was Katrina. Excellent book. I recommend it highly.
