What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

The Dark Thirty

So I admit, I didn't read the author's note in the front of the book until after I finished the book! So I didn't know what "the dark thirty" meant, but I went back and read that the author, Patricia McKissack, said that when she grew up in the south the kids used to call the half hour before nightfall the "dark thirty" and that also meant they had a half hour to get home before the monsters came out! oooooo I LOVE that! Love it! It gives me shivers! And so did The Dark Thirty: Southern Tales of the Supernatural. I thought that The Dark Thirty meant that there would be thirty stories in the book and that would have been very cool! But the ten that were wonderful! Creepy and good and horrific. Some of the horror came from beyond...but most of it came from the way people treat each other, and that is the most horrifying of all, but yet, there is definitely a sense of justice in these stories. Excellent book!
