What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Thanksgiving

Today is Thanksgiving and ever since I read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, I have felt very weird about Thanksgiving.  Everyone knows that the colonists and pretty much every since person in the US Government has treated the Native American poorly.  Have you ever been to a reservation?  It's unreal to see the way that Native Americans must now live because of US greed.  You know I love my country.  But I think back to "My country, right or wrong; if right, to be kept right; if wrong, to be set right."  And I think that when will the lives of Native Americans be set right?  Can they be set right?  Has too much damage been done?  It is the same way with African Americans.  Where are the reparations for years of slavery?
Now there is nothing wrong with a day of Thanksgiving.  But to somehow make it a happy scene of "Pilgrims and Indians sharing a feast," well, that just isn't right.  Every day should be a day of giving thanks.  I am just as guilty as the next person for not doing this every day and enough.
