I do love
Beverly Cleary, but I had never read
Otis Spofford until now. It was an ebook checkout from the library. It was funny and great and I do think that kids could still like it today, even though it was written in 1953, but there are SO many things that are offensive about it! Dude! Experimenting on animals in the classroom! Killing insects for a school report! Totally ridiculous comments and stereotypes about Native Americans. Like unreal!
So I don't know how I could recommend this book to a kid. What to do about books like that? I just couldn't get past the Native American stereotypes. That was harsh. Harsh. So yeah...I enjoyed it, but it was unsettling.
