What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Just Didn't Wow Me
So I do love Gary Paulsen, that is clear, but Masters of Disaster is one of those boys-only books, maybe. On the audio, and maybe in the book, I can't remember, Paulsen says that the book started out as a series in the magazine Boys' Life. I can totally see this being super popular for boys. It just didn't wow me, but maybe that's because I'm not a tween boy! Still, funny and a good one to recommend. Three friends decide that a great way to embrace their manhood and boldly go where no one else has gone before, and become popular with girls, is to embark upon some crazy stunts. I don't know what they would say to the girls if they ever became popular with them, because they still are in that cute, awkward stage where girls seem to both mystify and scare them, and that's part of what makes this book so appealing. Funny, and true to life.
