What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Character-driven Dystopian

I saw someone on goodreads describe The Age of Miracles in this way.  That's why I don't really call this blog a book review site.  It isn't.  I can't review books well at all.  The reader who posted that was right on...this book is about the slowing of the earth's rotation and the way that life changes and all of that, but it is even more so about Julia, a wonderful, wonderful, real character.  Even though the world is changing drastically around her, she must suffer through all of that, PLUS the normal misery of being twelve and thirteen.  I thought at first this was kind of a Last Survivors deal but no, it is a totally different type of book.  Loved the ending.  Loved the writing.  Loved it.  Thanks, Char, for the recommendation.
