What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

One of the Greatest Things about Books

is all of the new, cool stuff that you learn!  Reading Escape!:  The Story of the Great Houdini  was a great introduction into a man I had heard about, of course, but knew little about.  Harry Houdini was born Erik Weisz in Budapest, Hungary.  It was Austria-Hungary back then.  He reinvented himself a lot though, and told folks he was from Appleton, Wisconsin though, and can you blame him?  We all love Wisconsin!
This is a great first book about the crazy and wacky man who was known as Houdini by Sid Fleischman, who was a magician, in addition to being a great writer and father of Paul Fleischman, who wrote one of my most favorite books in the whole-wide world, Seedfolks.  Great, great book.
