Actually, there is another word for Girls Like Us, a hyphenated one: Printz-worthy. At my library we have had book group for young adults with exceptional abilities for a few years now. Last year though, it really took off thanks to the talents and just incredible love and personhood of a local educator, Christin Pintar. She has welcomed the library into her Life Skills class at the high school, taken on the leading of this young adult book group and inspired me and so many. She has introduced me to so many way cool young people who are similar and not similar to Quincy and Biddy. Gail Giles as written a book that you MUST read today. Fantastic.
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
