Sarah M. was one of my most favorite discoveries this year on my way to completing the YA Challenge. I first discovered her when I won a signed copy of Gimme a Call from Random Buzzers. Bras and Broomsticks is the first in her Magic in Manhattan series.
Magic is the tale of two sisters, Rachel, the elder, who is not a witch. And Miri, who is.
Rachel is jealous to discover that her little sister has inherited her mom's witch-powers, but she and Miri get along pretty well and so she figures it will be more than okay to have a sister who can work some magic for her. Say...cast a love spell on the cute boy at school, maybe fix it so she never has to do homework again. But Miri is reluctant to use her new powers until Rachel convinces her that she can use them to stop their father's upcoming wedding to the woman neither of them likes. Lots of laughs and quick and fun read.
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
