What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

In and Out

I have mixed feelings about In and Out Lists. I heard Hoda and Kathie Lee talking about the Washington Post's list for 2012 and so I googled it. Here it is.
First though, a word about Hoda and Kathie Lee. I just discovered this special hour of the Today Show. Recently I've been taking my dad to a lot of doctor's appointments and treatments and they always seem to be playing this really....um...interesting program in the waiting rooms.
I must put all of my prejudices out on the table here.
First of all, I am not a fan of the Today Show. I am a Good Morning America person. I loved Charlie and Diane and love Robin and George! See, I am on a first-name basis with them! GMA is just so much better than the Today Show and everyone who has ever been on it. So right there when I realized that this Hoda and Kathie Lee thing was part of the Today Show, I thought I would hate it.
And then I started watching H and KL and at first I just couldn't believe how bizarre it was! I wasn't sure if it was an SNL skit mocking the show or if it was for real. They do mock it on SNL, I've since discovered. But no, during the day, in those waiting rooms, I was watching the real thing. I was so annoyed at first and just kept thinking, "What IS this!?!?" But now, something has happened. And I love it.
So today I was in another waiting room and H and KL were talking about the In and Out List from the Washington Post.
Here is where I admit, in case it wasn't already so obvious, that I am not all that up on pop culture. In and Out lists bug me sometimes because I don't even know what the things on the "Out" list are, and here they are...already out!
But this year's Washington Post In and Out List has some great stuff!
The best one is
In: Pittsburgh
Out: Portland
I do love living in Pittsburgh, yet I don't know if it is truly "in" but I love that it is paired with the most unlivable, unvisitable city in the world, in my opinion! So that was terrific to see!
Next:
In: Naps
Out: Apps
Being one of the last owners of a BlackBerry, I don't even have to explain this one. Plus, who doesn't love naps!
The rest of the list contains a lot of people that I've never heard of, but that's okay I guess, since most of those names were on the Out List.
I have decided that I will make my own In and Out List of 2012. That way I will know all of the elements on both sides and all of things I like will be "in" and all of things that I don't like anymore, or never did like, will be "out" so there!
