What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

I don't want to visit that planet again.

Planet Middle School is by Nikki Grimes, the author of The Road to Paris, which I loved, loved, loved. I was excited to see this book, written in verse on the shelf at the library. As I read this book about Joy, who is starting to change from little girl to young teen, I was reminded how very hard it is to do that and how I would never, ever want to do that again. Poor Joy, a total Tom Boy, loves basketball and hanging with her best friend, a guy. She doesn't notice the boys in "that way" yet...but then things start to change all of a sudden. Her body is changing and she is noticing the boys in "that way" now. Great book, very quick read and will really make you thankful if you're out of it. And a great book if you are headed into or if you are in the middle of it and having a hard time. It gets better!
