Granny Torrelli Makes Soup is a book I've seen around a lot, but never read, even though I really have enjoyed other Sharon Creech books. I'm glad I finally picked this one up because it was a sweet, little, quick read.
It's the story of a young girl, Rosie, and her best friend, Bailey. They are twelve and have been friends since baby-hood. Twelve is that age where boy-girl friendships become a little complicated and it is a complicated situation that prompts Rosie to share her frustration about Bailey with her wise Grandma Torrelli. This is kind a Babette's Feast/Soul Food kinda story, I think. At least it made me think of that, when I read of Granny talking to Rosie and Bailey as they made soup and pasta together, and love being shown through food made and shared with loved ones. I really liked it.
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
