What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Printz Winner

In Darkness won the Printz Medal this year and I admit I was angry! I had seen the book before but it looked way too boring, I couldn't even get through the jacket description. I tried to read it a couple times after the awards came out, but couldn't get into it. My buddy, Kara, though, she couldn't put it down. So when my audible credit came in January, I bought it and man. Wow. It was amazing. It truly was one of those can't put it down/can't stop listening books. It is set in modern day Haiti and also in Haiti during the time of Toussaint Louverture. I didn't know anything about Haitian history, except the ridiculousness of Pat Robertson.
