What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Thoughtful

After reading Losing It, I find myself thinking about it, a lot.  Usually I just blow from one book to another, even if the book is super good.  But Losing It has me thinking.  This is a collection of short stories from a variety of YA authors.  When I saw that A.S. King was one of them, I knew I wanted to read it.  All of the stories deal with losing one's virginity and each one is very different.  Most of the stories are set in places other than the U.S. and so that was a stretch for me, and I have admitted before that I am don't feel like I have a good appreciation for books set outside of the USA.  Naturally not all of the stories are of the same quality, but all are worthy of reading.  I especially liked Bali Rai's "The White Towel."   Interesting little book.  I will buy it for the library, but I don't think I will get it for myself.
