What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Susan Campbell Baroletti
Susan Campbell Bartoletti has won the Carolyn W. Field Award four times. Her winning books are: Hitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler's Shadow, Black Potatoes: The Story of the Great Irish Famine, 1845-1850, Growing Up in Coal Country, and the book I just finished The Boy Who Dared. When she won for Hitler Youth, I was at the ceremony and got to hear her talk about it and the fictional The Boy Who Dared. The Boy Who Dared is based on the true story of Helmuth Hubener, who is also talked about in Hitler Youth. A great, great book. It is a tremendous story of faith and bravery in the face of extreme evil.
