When I see one of the many Gary Paulsen books I have yet to read, I hold it in my hand and think many thoughts, "Will this be as incredible as The Cookcamp or The Crossing?" "Could Mr. Paulsen have written yet ANOTHER book that every person should read?" "How many masterpieces can one man write?"
Well with Nightjohn, he has written another.
Incredible, important and dedicated to the memory of Sally Hemings, a name I didn't know before, but one I will never forget and one that everyone should know.
Beautiful and horrible and real. Read this now.
And yeah, Thomas Jefferson. Pretty much of a dirtbag. But you know...with that whole "Jeffersonian Bible" thing, I am not surprised.
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
