Kissing the Bee was one of those unexpected delights. Now that doesn't mean that the book is light-hearted and celebratory! It is a downer, but a good downer. I mean a very well written, poetic and beautifully written downer! I have never read a Kathe Koja book, but I certainly will read whatever I can find now. Especially after I saw this on Koja's blog.
One of the many, many things I enjoyed about this book was the insight into the life of bees. The main character, Dana, has a year-long science project to do and she has chosen bees as the topic. Fascinating stuff. I knew a wee, wee, wee bit, mostly from the poem I performed!
The facts of bee life, partnered with the bee-like behavior of Dana and her best friend Avra and the third corner of their triangle, Emil, makes for an incredible read. Loved this.
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
