What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Another Tweener!

A Crooked Kind of Perfect can be found in some libraries in the YA section and some in the children's section. It is about an eleven year old girl, so I guess it is really a tween book. And it is a good one. Light and funny and realistic. Zoe Elias is just about to turn eleven and really wants to be a child prodigy when it comes to playing piano. Only problem is, she doesn't have a piano. Her parents have bought her a Perfectone D60 Organ instead. Crooked is a truly funny book that reminds me of a Judy Blume book only better. The kids aren't jerks and they aren't obsessed with sex or what little they know about it or think they know about it. Zoe's story deals with friendships, parents, first crushes and organ competitions called Perform-o-ramas. Great fun, likeable, real and smart characters. Zoe's dad is agoraphobic and that makes for some funny moments. The whole book is an easy, enjoyable ride.
