Everyone loves Neil Gaiman. I'm not saying I don't. But people LOVE him. Take for example the butt-kissy nod to him that I railed about in my review of Wintergirls. And of course there was the great Newbery mistake.
So I guess it is no surprise that Mirrormask got all kinds of wonderful reviews. But man...I just didn't get it. I understood it. Even though it is a freaky dream of a book, but I just didn't think it was all that and a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos. There were some funny parts. And it was a really good description of the unreal/real way that a crazy dream feels. But was it breath-taking and powerful and all of that Neil Gaiman-ish stuff that all of the Neil Gaiman Fan Girls and Boys love? Not to me anyway.
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
