What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Alone Together - Are Robots Ever Capable of Love?

Turkle is quite clear that robots are not capable of love. That's true. I mean, they are robots. This interview here is really good and explains a lot of what Turkle believes, if you haven't read the book.
A question that came to my mind, as someone who grew up a Calvinist and still has some Calvinist leanings...."are humans capable of love?" I would reference The Institutes, Book 2, Chapter 3 to answer this question.
Granted none of this means that robots can love. I'm just saying, Turkle probably isn't a Calvinist. I'm not either. I'm just pointing out that human nature isn't as glorious as we might think. If it was, people wouldn't need robotic animals in the first place in nursing homes.
Another question...is that the pointiest beard you ever saw? Wow! Dude! He could dip it in ink and write with it!
DUDES! This just in! Sherry Turkle spoke at Calvin College in January! I gotta find out what she said! That is so cool!
