What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

The Monster of Abuse
Scowler was a tough read. I wanted to read it because I loved Kraus' Rotters. I did enjoy it, but I read it while my father was dying and well, he was an abuser. Not nearly as horrible as the father in this story! But still, it was just doubly hard to read at that particular time in my life. This is told from the POV of Ry, a recent high school graduate who is pretty much wrecked by his father's abuse. When the book begins, his father is in prison, but he breaks out and comes back to finish his business with Ry. Scowler is a about a monster in human form. It is a tough book to recommend because of the harsh violence and really difficult themes. I can't say I enjoyed the book. It's not the kind of book you enjoy. But it is very good.
