What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Wow

Again, another Paulsen that just blew my mind.  Sarny is the name of the book and the name of the young woman we met in Nightjohn.  She is telling her story at the age of 94, I think...from a nursing home, in the 1930s.  Talking about the past and all of its pain and joy.  We find out what happened to her when the Southern army was defeated and how she walked nearly all the way to New Orleans to find her children who were sold to someone else.  Sarny goes to work from a woman named Miss Laura who reminded me a bit of Willie from Out of the Easy and I loved her just as much.  What a book.  A must-read for all ages.  Horrible and beautiful.
