So like I mentioned in my review of Local, I'm re-reading and planning to finish The Runaways. I recently got volumes 1-3, which contains the first eighteen issues in one, big heavy book. It was great to be reacquainted with these teen superheroes. The comic is set in L.A., a city I fell in love with in March when I visited California for the first time.
As all of the publicity surrounding the Runaways comic says, every teen thinks that their parents are evil, but what if they really were? The six teens in this comic discover that their parents are evil supervillians. They band together and set out to fight their parents and do good instead of evil!
The comic is quite funny. The teenagers, even though they are now superheroes, are normal teenagers with crushes and jealousies and insecuritites.
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
