Wonder was a fantastic book. What more can I say? I loved, loved, loved this book and almost as much as I loved Wonder, I disliked Julian, the rotten bully.
In Wonder: the Julian Chapter, Palacio has written Julian's side of the story and it is brilliant. It is realistic and reminds us all that there are no totally good people or totally bad people, just people, each with a story.
This isn't a sappy deal, where we find out that Julian is just a victim himself and all Law and Order SVU-y, he takes out his self-hatred on others. I know, sadly, that does happen, but Palacio didn't go for the common explanations, for the black and white. This is an important book to read because there are a lot of Julian in each and every one of us, you know?
What's Going On Here?
There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.
