I don't watch much tv

and again, I HATE it when people say that!  But I really don't, just because I work so much and listen to books so much and play Cookie Jam so much!  So tv vs. Cookie Jam?  Cookie Jam wins.  It's not that I am an anti-tv intellectual, here!
So when my mom started getting into reruns of The Office, she really fell in love with Jenna Fischer.  And when we found this book by her, The Actor's Life:  a Survival Guide I got it on audible so that we could listen to it in the car.  It was a very good listen and I do think Jenna Fischer is a funny and smart woman.  It was great to hear her tips for people going in to acting.  And I so wish I had done it!  Even though I have no talent for it, but I have a giant ego!  I loved the recipe for aspiring actor's pizza.
At the end of the book she does some interviews with actors.  And man, there is just one who is really nasty.  I can't remember her name...but you will know the nasty one when you listen!  Ha!

Hilarious!

Being so behind the times, I didn't know who Tiffany Haddish was when this book, The Last Black Unicorn was recommended to me.  This is NO reflection upon Tiffany Haddish, as you know, I am the person who said last year, "The kids were so excited, it was as if Peggy Lee had walked into school." The point is that even if you live in 1954 like I do, you will love TLBU.  This book was laugh out loud funny.  Excellent read!  AND if you get the audiobook, listen to the song at the end!  AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Really Loved Lucy. Really!

I Love Lucy:  a Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Sitcom is written and read by Gregg Oppenheimer, the son of Jess Oppenheimer, the head writer and producer of I Love Lucy.  This is an LATW production, which I love and the only complaint I have is that I wish it would have been longer and had more detail!

Robin and Fred

Once I heard a wise woman say that she imagines God to be a combination of Robin Williams and Fred Rogers.  I hope that she will read Robin and realize that her imagination is blessedly wonderful!  Dave Itzkoff has done an incredible, respectful, entertaining, informative job of bringing to life this complicated and talented and loving man. 

David, David, David

my roommate Nancy would say, when David Letterman would make a smart/edgy remark, which was often.  We loved watching Letterman.  It was sad to see him retire.  I liked this book.  I didn't like how little was mentioned of Joan, but maybe David and Joan really didn't have much to do with one another, so that is my bad.  Letterman:  the Last Giant of Late Night was good but it wasn't awesome.  And I just think Mr. Letterman deserves awesome.

I Get It

Bachelor Nation:  Inside the World of America's Favorite Guilty Pleasure was eye-opening for me because I have never seen a full episode of The Bachelor.  Now it isn't because I consider myself too good for it, it's just that it's on when I work, so I never got into it.  I did love Blind Date.  So no, I am not thinking I am above TB at all!  But listening to this book I do understand why people would be drawn to it, perhaps like a television version of a Stone Barrington novel. 

REALLY, really good SPOILERS!

Stranger than Fanfiction was SO good!  So good!  There is swearing, so if that bothers you then just be aware, but this was just so good.  Dealt with faith in such a good way, too.  I loved the conversation that the one young man imagines God having about homosexuality.  This is just awesome!  I had no idea that the book would end the way it did.  I am even fearful of putting up the subject tags because it totally gives away the shock-ending!  But man, what a great book.

A Legend

Last Girl Before Freeway:  the Life, Loves, Losses and Liberation of Joan Rivers was really, really good.  I learned so much about one of my heroes.  We all still miss Joan.  Well, I mean the people who really understand who she was.  And this book is one way of getting to that.  I learned a lot.  Some of it was hard to hear!  But still, I love her even more.  Great, great book.

Jumping the Shark

Jump the Shark:  When Good Things Go Bad was a little dated, but I still enjoyed it.  Its by the guy, Jon Hein, who came up with the concept of tv shows and another people and groups "jumping the shark."  Jump the Shark itself jumped the shark when TV Guide bought it. Bone the Fish is a website that took up where Jump the Shark left off, but I think it is over as well.  Too bad.  Great idea it was and great fun!  The book though, was just a quick listen to pass the time until my audible credit gets here.
