What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Next to Christopher Paul Curtis

You might be wondering what CPC has to do with Dory. Well, I will tell you, next to the latest CPC book, this was my most anticipated release of 2018! And it did not disappoint! Dory has not lost her humor or originality or fabulousness. She has just gotten better. I don't remember her remember her being as vulnerable in the others and I love her even more! Which I didn't think was possible! Head in the Clouds is excellent.

Fans of Dory

And while I know one person who isn't a fan of Dory, I think she secretly is and just tells me she isn't to get me stirred up, because I just can't see how anyone couldn't love Dory Fantasmagory. Dory Dory Black Sheep is the third in this series by Abby Hanlon and I LOVED it! I read it again last night with another FOD who texted me just now with "I 3> Goblin" and when you read this book, you will, too!
Keeping a series funny and fresh must be hard work, I am sure, but Hanlon really knows how to do it! Long live Dory! Rascal!

Fantasmical

I LOVED Dory Fantasmagory! Loved it! Loved it! And Dory Fantasmagory and the Real True Friend was just as good. It was fantastic. Truly. I loved how it didn't go in the way that I thought it would. It totally avoided being just another story about making new friends and about how it is easy to go along with a clique and how about being different is great. It was just original and fresh, even though it is a common topic, Dory, starting a new school year and her older brother and sister telling her not to be weird like she was last year or she won't have any friends. Dory is a girl, but anyone of any gender would love this book.
