What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Plans C, D, E and so on!

Listening to an Anne Lamott book will be my whole Alphabet Plan for the new year and always. Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith was another excellent listen. My mother has been listening along and she really is inspired by Lamott who seems to be the first person to really ask the questions and share the concerns that my mother has. Great, great stuff.

Morning with Gayle

I had heard about Gayle King because she is Oprah's best friend, but I knew she was more than just Oprah's best friend, but I never really knew how awesome she was until I started watching CBS This Morning. For that reason I was so happy to read Notes to Self: Inspiring Figures Write to the Young People They Once Were. I had thought that it was a book written by Ms. King about her own life, so at first I was a little bummed that I wouldn't learn more about King from it, but wow, she really picked the heavy hitters here! Maya Angelou, Joe Biden for example. And there's also Jane Fonda! Along with some people I didn't know, but each one had really inspiring stories and wonderful things to say. It was great listening to the book because each person read their own story!

Third One

Alan Christoffersen gets half way in The Road to Grace, the third book in The Walk series. This one was really, great as well. It hasn't turned old or tired. And I can't wait to read the next.

This one made me cry

Maybe it was just what I was going through at the time, but Miles to Go got to me. This one just got to me. I just love the way this guy writes.

The Walk

The Walk was a book that I never, ever would have read had not my dear, dear friend Beth recommended it to me. Since I started reading it, I can't get this old song about of my head.
My friend lost her husband last spring, but she read this book years before her love passed away. But that is how the book begins, with a young man losing his wife and job and house and deciding to walk from Seattle to the Florida Keys.
This is one of the best, best books I have ever read.
