The Tricky Thing about Short Stories...

is that sometimes they are uneven, especially when written by different authors.  I have to say that was NOT the case with Black Enough:  Stories of Being Young and Black in America.  It was edited by Ibi Zoboi and I have read two of her books and one of her short stories and I loved them all.  I also loved so many of these stories...like the guys growing up the south and falling in love.  This was just such a great collection of voices that not only need to be heard but man...the world is so much better when they are. 

Who WAS that?!?

 The Who Was/Is, What Was/Is, books are REALLY popular and after listening to Who was Rosa Parks, Who was Jackie Robinson, Who was Fredrick Douglass, Who Was Harriet Beecher Stowe, Who Was Nelson Mandela and What Was the Underground Railroad, I can see why!

Harder than Hard

to read The Port Chicago  50 and learn of the horrible treatment of African American sailors.  Harder still to admit that I had not heard about this until I read Steve Sheinkin's book.  This is again one of those things that I pray and hope is different now among kids who are learning American history.  Here is more about the Port Chicago Disaster.  An excellent book.
