And Now for Something Completely Different

Left Out is totally different from Serafina.  But I loved it just as much.   I love Tim Green.  I really do.  I had a lot of questions while reading this.  There were just a couple of things that made me wonder.  It got me thinking a lot about the cochlear implant that Landon has and the varied ways in which the implant is viewed by members of the deaf community.  I know that the book would have been way too long to go into all of that, but it did get me thinking about it.  Also Landon use any form of sign language (though I did get a little hint, but maybe I was reading into it, that his dad and he probably would have used it if the mom wasn't so set on not using it.)
I looked around a little and found that members of the CI community really praised the book, just wondered what others in the D/deaf community think. 

Not EVERYTHING

You Don't Know Everything, Jilly P.!  is a terrific book and very original, the only thing I think is a little odd is the title.  I mean it isn't a bad title, but for me the title just didn't click!  Tackles some important issues.  Just great.

Shorty

One of the main characters, Virgil, is short and the book is short, too!  Hello, Universe is really good.  A quick book, but not cheap or cheesy or fluff.  It was jut a little too short, I think.  But the characters were easy to like and I did care about them!  Kaori is super funny, without meaning to be, so parts with her were probably the parts I loved the best.

I Gave in!

I had said for years that I would never read Hate that Cat, just because of the name!  I love, love, love kitties and just couldn't imagine reading a book with a title like that!  But then, Creech book after Creech book...I knew I had to read it. And I am so glad I did.  I read Love that Dog so long ago, I had forgotten that Walter Dean Myers is mentioned in it.  And you know how I love Mr. Walter Dean Myers!
I both listened to and read this book and I highly recommend that. 
It was neat to be reminded of the poetry of William Carlos Williams, of The Red Wheelbarrow fame!  I thought it was pretty funny that the boy writes about his uncle, who likes to fight with everyone, and thinks he is always right.  He says that his uncle told him that poems need to rhyme and that his poems were not good.  He also said that William Carlos Williams was a "minor poet."  I just found that very amusing, and I know that people can be like that uncle!  I thought that it was cool, too that this toady uncle was a college professor, just proving that even people in "important" jobs can also be wrong! 
Great book and well, I loved how the boy came to know the truth about cats!
