Something Special

The Inquisitor's Tale or the Three Magical Children and Their Holy Dog was, indeed, something special.  The group on goodreads that reads a possible Newbery every month, one of ladies, Brenda, commented, "I think Gidwitz did something special here." And wow, she said it so well.
A tale set in the Middle Ages, for the ages.
Towers Falling is still my first choice, but this is a close, close, close second.
Very funny and very poignant.

The end...maybe...

Will this really be the end of the Tale Dark and Grimm series?  The title says it all, A Grimm Conclusion, but we can always hope, right?  Adam Gidwitz has created an incredible series and the art from Hugh D'Andrade is spetacular.  I looked at Mr. D'Andrade's website, I wondered if he did the cover of The Gates, but I couldn't find the answer. 
I really liked the scene with the devil's grandmother and the words that she shares with Jorinda and Joringel. 

Grim but Great

I loved Adam Gidwitz's A Tale Dark and Grim and I have waited for so long for In a Glass Grimmly but it was worth the wait!  Excellent and creepy.  Not for kids unless they have a really sick sense of humor!  Blood and guts...just like the original fairy tales!
This is the story of Jack and Jill, who are cousins and not feeling very happy about their respective lots in life.  They are forced into seeking out a magic mirror, under threat of death and their journey takes them up beanstalks and into goblin villages and all kinds of other horrible places, even inside a salamander.  Great stuff!  And a great message, too.

Twisted Tales

Oh oh oh!  How delightful A Tale Dark and Grimm is!  Deliciously gory and fun!  The book starts with the tale of Hansel and Gretel and works them into other Grimm Fairy Tales (that site is hilarious) to make a seriously funny and creative book that was hard to put down.
This was my last book of 2010!  That makes 200 for the year!
