What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

When Dad Killed Mom

was a really, really good book. The title isn't as subtle as The Last to Let Go, sure, but it was really, really good. TLTLG was good. But I really had a hard time liking the main character. It was easy to like her brother and her mom, and Dani. Her sister wasn't a very big character. I felt that we didn't get to know her that much.

Star Dust

Katherine Paterson is magic.
She really is.
The Same Stuff as Stars is another exceptional, heart-touching book from Paterson.
TSSAS is the story of two children, Angel and Bernie. Angel is eleven, but has had to be much older. Her father is in prison and her mother is not very reliable. Bernie is six and she has had to parent him for a long time. This story is told from the POV of Angel finds herself with her great-grandma and meets "the star man" a man who teaches her about the stars. This is just a lovely, lovely story. Very moving.
