What's Going On Here?

There are SO MANY wonderful book review blogs out there and I can't compete with them, that is for sure. So this is not a book review blog. This is just a way for me to organize what I have read so that I can be better at matching the right book to the right person. The blog title comes from the brilliant mind of the most talented woman who ever lived, Ms. Judy Garland. The full quote is, "Always be a first-rate version of yourself, instead of a second-rate version of someone else." That is what I hope to do here and in ever aspect of my life.

Wow

Bang is an incredibly excellent book.
It is just a wow book.
I think Barry Lyga is one of my most favorite authors.
I think this is Printz worthy.
I just really, really thought the whole thing was realistic and hopeful and sad and horrible and really, really real.  This and The Hate U Give are my picks so far for Printz, but I think this one edges out HUG.  Of course, that could be because I just finished this one, so I will have to see how I feel about both a little further on down the road.  But this one?  Wow.

Jasper Dent

Blood of My Blood is the last in the Jasper Dent, I Hunt Killers trilogy and it was brutal.  Brutal, man.  But really good.  I just looked up the series on goodreads and I see that there are some little stories that go with it and I can't wait to read them now!
I do think that adults would really like this book, even though Jasper is a teenager.  A work of warning, this is not for the squeamish.

Many a Tear Has to Fall

but its all in the game...great song.  The Game was a fantastic book.  The second in the Jasper Dent series and from the ending, I am sure there will be more.  I Hunt Killers was wonderful and I loved this one just as much.  There's a lot of sex and killing and all that, so it is def for older teens.

Jazz Hands

It's been more than a year since I read I Hunt Killers, but I so love these little short story ebook deals that help you jump right back into the story!  Career Day was a great tool for getting me ready for the second installment in the Jasper Dent series even though it is supposed to be read before the first book.  Actually I didn't even realize that until now.  Oh well!  Yeah, so first Career Day, then I Hunt Killers and now I am reading Game.  And loving it!  So if you want to refresh your memory of this Dexter-like series before you start the second book, Career Day will help!  And it is free on Barry Lyga's website!

There's a Killer on the Road

So I Hunt Killers doesn't come out until next month, I got a copy at Midwinter and I just finished it today and I when it comes out I want to recommend it to everyone who enjoys the Dexter series and doesn't mind a very twisted and dark story. At first I was a little annoyed that it was so Dexter-like but then I reminded myself that there's nothing new under the sun and that I found myself just getting lost in this really well written and suspenseful book by Barry Lyga.
Jazz is the son of the worst serial killer the US has ever known. When Jazz's Dear Old Dad, Billy, was doing his horrific work, he was also grooming Jazz to become just like him. Now that Billy is in prision, and Jazz is almost 18, Jazz is worried that he will become like his monster-dad and he spends most of his days making sure that he doesn't. Enter a new serial killer in Jazz's small town and Jazz gets into his head that if he can catch this serial killer, maybe he can escape his father forever.
That's a way-simple plot summary, there's a lot more to the story and it is story well worth reading! It is much better than I am Not a Serial Killer, even though I liked that, too. This is just a really good book, if you have a strong tummy!
