Life Goes Quickly?

Sometimes!
But sometimes it seems like the clock never moves!
Even when one is old, like I am, there are still times when things move in slow motion.  But I do have to say, life does seem to move faster than slower.
Speed of Life was a very well done book.   Carol Weston is a great author!  I want to read more from her!
I love that same sex marriages don't even seem like a big deal anymore, in some circumstances.  That was random, and not a big part of this story, but it was a little detail and I just thought that was neat.  That is wasn't THE story, but just a little detail in the story.  Really good book.  Really REAL.

Have You Ever

This is a really, really good song...because I like it so much, I was thinking that is why I kept thinking that Have You Ever Had a Family was the name of the book Did You Ever Have a Family.  It is not.
My sweet friend, Julie, recommended this book to me, knowing that it wasn't too long, even though it is an adult book and I am usually very picky about my adult books.
It was something.  It was unlike anything I had read before, because I don't read much literary fiction.  Okay, I NEVER read literary fiction.  But I really did like this book.
It is sorrowful and hard and painful, but not like watching an accident, rubber-necking at the gore kind of thing.  It was...like an ache.   Yes, it made my heart ache to read it.  But it wasn't overwhelmingly horrible, even though the story of all of this loss is horrible.  It was just told so well and was so mournful.  Hard, but good.  Good.

Satisfying End to a Satisfying Trilogy

Finally I was able to read and finish This is So Not Happening the last in the He's So/She's So trilogy by my most-read author and very loved author, Kate Brian/Kieran Scott/Emma Harrison.    This author has brought me much joy and I am sad to see this series end, but I hope she keeps writing and writing, I don't care under what name, just bring it on!
Ally and Jake try to make it work for their senior year.  But then...well, Jake finds out that he is the father of Chloe's baby.  And well, that makes things complicated.  I thought that while most of these kids are spoiled rich kids, they act pretty mature for their age and they made some bad decisions, but ultimately, they do what is right.  Humor, romance and all the rest.  Great series.  I loved it.

The Last One

Brilliant was the final book in the Avery Sisters Trilogy and while I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two, I am glad I went ahead and finished the series.  This final book focuses on almost-seventeen-year-old Quinn.  She is the oldest sister and the one who has always been knows as the good girl with the perfect judgment.  During this spring/summer of serious confusion, brought on by their mother's shady investments and resulting in the family losing all of their big-time wealth, Quinn experiments with the Wild Side of life.  Good book and a read-worthy series.  The mom is a huge jerk though!

I Feel Lucky

When Mary Chapin Carpenter first came on the scene I really loved her music.  I listened to her State of the Heart cd over and over again.  Likewise with Shooting Straight in the Dark.  I don't know why I stopped listening to her.  I think that I was turned off by what I thought her politics were but I actually don't KNOW what her politics were and so I feel like I was an unfair jerk about it.  And if I still liked her music, who cares what I thought of her politics (even though I didn't know what they were for sure).  So I think I will go back to listening to MCC every once in awhile, maybe. Especially I Feel Lucky.
Anyway....this is the first book in the Avery Sisters Trilogy and blew through it quickly.  There isn't any supernatural stuff in this one, like in Gorgeous, but it is the same timeframe as Gorgeous, just the story told from the youngest daughter's point of view.  Great series!  I'm off to read the third!

The Second Part First

When I found out that I was reading the second book in the Avery Sisters trilogy first, I was tempted to stop and order in the first and go in order, but by the time I made my discovery, I was hooked on Gorgeous.  It has an interesting concept:  middle girl, not the prettiest or the smartest- those titles go to her older and younger sisters, makes a deal with the devil.  She sells her cell phone to him.  In return he makes it so that 7 people find her gorgeous.  She enters a modeling contest, finds herself as a contender.  She lands a great guy.  But is all of this because of the deal with the devil?  Or is Allison Avery just starting to come into her own?  Is it time for her to stop thinking of herself as the lemon-faced, invisible grump?  Is she more than just a average?  A good coming-of-age, self-perception kind of deal, about friendship and the real meaning of beauty.

Is He Worth It?

Have you ever dated someone and thought..."man this is just so much work?"  Time to say good-bye!  But it's not as easy as it sounds.  He's So Not Worth It features the POVs of Ally and Jake, whom me met in She's So Dead to Us, are apart for the summer, Ally is down on LBI at the home of her mom's new boyfriend and Jake is grounded back in Orchard Hill.  Ally is spending the summer hooking up with local guys and trying to deal with the fact that it doesn't look good for her parents' relationship.  Jake is working with Ally's dad and taking summer classes and doing some things he shouldn't be doing.  Great fun.  This characters are very, very real.  They are not very likable at times, but they are just really real and so that makes me like them.  I can't wait for the last one in the series!

She's So...

I started this book a year or so ago and I have no idea why I didn't finish it until now.  It was just sitting around on my Kindle.  I am so glad that I did because it was a completely enjoyable book.  One of those books that you need to read when your mind needs a rest.  Not that it was cheesy like a Stuart Woods book, it isn't, but just that it takes you away to another locale and gets you into the characters' lives and out of this world for awhile.  She's So Dead to Us is the first in a trilogy, focusing on Ally and Jake.  Ally has moved back to her hometown after having left it in disgrace.  Her dad pulled a Bernie Madoff and all of Ally's right friends up on the Crest (Cresties as they are called) lost a lot of money because of him.  Now Ally and her mom live in a condo and they are "Norms" just the regular folk.  Ally thinks that maybe her friends up on the Crest will welcome her back into the group with open arms, but that's not happening.  Some blame her for her father's theft and deceit and some are just jerks.  Ally though, is falling in love with Jake, the guy who now lives in her home.  The book is back and forth between Ally and Jake and I like them both, even though they are flawed people, just like all of us.  Looking forward to reading the next one.  This is by Kieran Scott, who is also Kate Brian!
