Dash and Lily's Book of Dares is a wonderful book to read at Christmas time. It is a wonderful book to read at Halloween. It is a wonderful book to read at Easter. It is wonderful book to read on Labor Day.
Let's face it. If you've read this book, you know it is wonderful book to read at any time. If you haven't yet read this book, then you must. And there's no better time to read it than now. Whatever time it happens to be.
This book begins on December 21 and I started reading on December 21. So that was kinda cool. It takes place in NYC and is written by the incredibly amazing and talented writer duo of
Rachel Cohn, whom I have loved since
Gingerbread and
David Levithan, whom I have loved since I read
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, which he wrote with Rachel Cohn. Cohn and Levithan also wrote
Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List which I adored as well!
If you think about it, it had to be a danger that Dash and Lily would end up sounding at least a little like couples Naomi and Ely and/or Nick and Norah, but no, Dash and Lily are completely different and they are my favorite of the three couples, though I do love them all.
Dash and Lily are just so different. And so real and so full of hope.
Dash meets Lily via a notebook she left in
The Strand, in which she invites the finder of the notebook on a scavenger hunt of sorts.
All of the supporting characters in the book are intriguing and different. Everything about it is spot-on, from the description of Christmas movies called
Momma Got Run Over By A Reindeer and
Collation to washingtonsquaremommies. Hilarious!
